...at this moment in time

Lakin is watching Ben's giggle video over and over for the gazillionth time.

Ben's completely soaked his vest with drool.

I just ate chips and salsa like it was going out of style.

We wrapped up a little homemade Valentine's shoot that made my momma heart soar.  Lets just say that the siblings were cuddling for a portion of the photos.

I enjoyed an episode of Nashville and a Hot Cocoa during nap time today.

Making this gem for dinner.

SO. Can't complain.

Photography Friday: Kaitie & Marshall

These two were simply adorable.  Kaitie & Marshall were such fun to photograph.  I love it when clients just have a good time and I am guessing that's what these two do, all of the time.  After a reschedule do to a serious snowstorm, we were able to snag a beautiful day that somewhat resembled a warmer time here in Rochester.  Bring on the July wedding!

tiny update on the offspring

It's been  awhile since I've updated the blog with family photos and stories.  Month 4 hit and Ben developed some needs.  Imagine that.  Ha!  He actually looks to be entertained and soothed.  I guess we knew it was coming.  Still an easy kid but really looking to interact more and more each day.  Makes for some fun and exhausting days.

As soon as one child is cared for, the other needs something.  I honestly don't remember the last time I actually had breakfast.  Like before lunch hour.  I'm not complaining (well, maybe a little) but I see that all my extra hobbies are taking a back seat to actually caring for the littles in our home.

Typical morning in our house looks something like this...

5:00 am Feed Ben and put him back to bed.  Go back to sleep myself.
5:30 am Chris gets up and pokes me to get up with him.  Go back to sleep.
6:00 am Get up and enjoy child free moment, coffee, and possibly the Good Book.
6:30 am Lakin's up and I know she's a ticking potty bomb.  Really loving my quiet time but not more than I love not having to wash her sheets and/or clean up a potty mess.
7:00 am Finally get Lake out of bed.  Come upstairs, convince her to try using the potty, put pants on for the day, allow me to brush her hair, etc.
7:30 am Make her breakfast and get Ben up for some breakfast too.
7:45 am Remind Lakin from the couch that Ben is eating and I do not have a gazillion hands to get her more milk right that second.
8:00 am Clean Lakin, change and dress Ben, encourage him to play a little on his own with the play mat, put on Diego for Lakin, hop in the shower.
8:15 am Lakin pokes her head into the shower, she's completely stripped down and climbing in whether I like it or not.
8:16 am Exit shower, get Lakin out of shower, get everyone dressed.
9:00 am Usually time for us to be out the door, I'm lucky if I brush my teeth, let alone get something to eat.

So now, a quick update and photos taken with my for real camera, not my phone.  I know.  GASP.  These photos have been sitting on the camera just begging to be uploaded.  They're not edited.  You get what you get and you don't throw a fit, right?  New mantra in our house.  Mostly a reminder for me.  :)

First, Bennett.

Little guy is working on some teeth, I just know it.  We've now entered the slobber phase where every sleeper and onesie is wet within fifteen minutes.  Perfect timing for some winter chapping of the face.  :)      Sophie the giraffe has been helping him work through his teeth issues.  Lakin wasn't so much into the giraffe and instead preferred to put random items from the floor in her mouth to ease her teething pain.  Sophie is a much better choice, little guy.

When he's not rocking a monkey PJ on the couch, Ben likes to spend his time in the Bumbo seat and on his play mat.  Pretty soon we'll bust out the "office" also known as the exosaucer in an attempt to teach him to play independently.

Ben has his first baby friend, and dare I say, baby crush.  Claire is two weeks younger then Bennett and her big sister is one of Lakin's besties.  Ben and Claire has been destined for something great since the womb.  Here is one of their many floor/tummy time dates.  Turns out Ben's much more happy about tummy time when he has a pretty girl to look at.

Ben's also started laughing and giggling.  This typically happens when being thrown (cautiously) into the air or when he's playing with his dad.  Those boys sorta like each other.  Daddy comes home and Ben just grins ear to ear.
His cheeks, guys... I could rub my face against those sweet cheeks of his forever.  I love laying him down at night or nap because I can just put my face next to his and breathe in his baby goodness.  OH MY WORD.  I can already tell that there's something special between a momma and her boy.
Ben heads to the doctor next week for his 4 month check up (a smidge late).  We're really hoping his head has rounded out.  The doctor mentioned a baby helmet last check up if things didn't improve on their own.  While I would never wish for Ben to have to wear the head gear, I resolve to have a good spirit about it if it's recommended.  Little boy will have the best damn helmet EVER if it comes to that.

And here's proof that my babies like their milk.

And now for a little Lakin update.

Lakin has been giving her mother a run for her money. So nothing new.  This little girl is into EVERYTHING.  After nap until bedtime is often spent finding Lakin playing with something dangerous, fragile or forbidden, prying it from her hands and redirecting her attention to something more appropriate.  No, we do not climb the bookshelf.  No, we do not throw Ben's dirty diapers all over the nursery.  No, we don't fill a million tiny Tupperware containers with water from the fridge water dispenser and leave them all over the kitchen floor.  For obvious reasons.

She's pretty crafty too.  Whenever I suggest it's time for "rest" or bedtime, Lakin says, "Is it almost time to play?"  She knows good and well she's about to be confined to her bed.   Good try though.  She's also become a little negotiator.  "I just need one more, Momma.  how about one more and then we're done."  "Mom, I need a tiny snack. Just a tiny one."  Also when given a directive, like pick up the cards or take a potty break, she likes to chime in "... and then I get a Dora snack."  It seems to Lakin that she is in charge.  All of the time.
Her crazy locks are finally growing into something a bit more manageable.  I even got this adorable bow in before it was shaken loose from her jumping all over the basement.  Small victories.  At least she'll let us comb her hair, I used to have to wrestle her down or put on some Dora to distract her long enough to get it combed and off her face.
Her favorite letter currently is K.  Clearly.  Didn't you have a favorite letter as a child?

It's cold here (hello, high of -8) and we're desperate to get some energy out.  We've been zipping up and heading out for some play dates and time at little Toddler hangouts around town.  It's totally worth the forty minutes of gathering, zipping, and covering that must happen to get two out the door and on their way for play.

So there's a quick update.  One that took me all morning to write.  :)

Photography Friday: Brent and Ellen

Brent and Ellen were one of my favorite couples.  I was able to shoot their engagement session but their wedding was only weeks after Ben's birth so I missed out.  Fortunately, I was able to put together designs for a couple of products they purchased and enjoy the moments of their big day, even if I couldn't be there in person.

Brent and Ellen are the kind of clients we hope to hang on to for life.  They are fun, understanding, considerate and appreciative of others and so willing to have a good time.  Can't wait until we shoot their Trash the Dress soon.

I'm including photos from the engagement session and wedding.  So beautiful.  At the Country Club of Rochester.   The details are absolutely gorgeous.

On Imperfection

Sometimes my own perfectionism gets the best of me.  Sometimes I forget to enjoy the process rather than just look to the product.  Sure, she's wearing a tank top in January.  Yes, her hair is probably in her face.  Maybe she does have socks on her hands and three tutus under her skirt and a mismatched hair bow.  But she's rockin' it.  Sometimes being a "hot mess" is where it's at.  Thanks, Baby Girl for keeping it real around here.

Christmas: Part II FINAL INSTALLMENT

Yes it is January and I'm still talking about Christmas.  Sue me.  I haven't had much time to sit down and record.  So lets all step into our time traveling machines and go back two weeks with me.  Eh?

Chris had the week following Christmas off and we were able to spend the entire week in Kansas City with our friends and family.  It was GLORIOUS.  I read for pleasure, sometimes slept in, drank coffee without reheating it four times in the morning, and had delicious meals each night without having to lift a finger or plan a meal in advance.  A girl could get used to that.  So allow me to recap our trip via pics.    Sit down.  This one is a long one.

We left Rochester Saturday morning and make it to KC in time for some dinner and presents at my parents' house.  We tried something new and didn't borrow a DVD player for Lakin (mostly due to a lack of planning ahead on my part) and discovered she takes naps without Dora constantly yapping at her.  She also loves to look at books and Highlights magazines.  Not too bad without the telly to entertain her.

Lakin received some Princess dolls, a homemade skirt and pillow and a homemade I Spy game (which is perfect to stick in a bag and pull out in a store).  Bennett received those homemade soft blocks and a wet bag for a his diapers.  He was elated.  As usual.  :)

My mom took us to Crown Center to check out the holiday display and activities for kids.  There's a Santa's Play Land that Chris and I both frequented each Christmas as kids.  It's now more Crayola themed than Santa but still quite magical.  Lakin ran around and climbed in this play area for a while.

That giant piece of plastic around Lakin's neck is her beloved Tinkerbell necklace my mom made out of a party favor.  Might have been Lakin's favorite thing in her stocking.  I tell you, Grandma knows where it's at!

Chris manned the coats and Ben while we supervised Lakin jumping off things.

Outside, there are large cars and toys to climb on and inside.  There's also an outdoor skating rink which we will have to try when Bugs is a bit older.

I'm sure I'll regret this photo someday soon.  You're welcome.
Lakin helped Grandma make some Cowboy cookies.  Can I just tell you, there is something really special about watching your daughter do something with you mother that you loved to do as a kid?

Grandma to the rescue again!  Lakin's Tinkerbell wings only had Velcro to hold them on.  Grandma fastened some straps and voila, the girl has reliable, stay put wings.
Lakin loved her time at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

After staying with my folks we moved our stuff five minutes down the road and spent the last part of our time with Chris' family.

Lakin and Gigi had a tea party and used Grandma Ellie's redbird tea cups for the special occasion.
In other news, Ben proved himself to, in fact, be THE WORLD'S CUTEST LITTLE BROTHER.

Two extra stockings were hung this year for our newest members of the family, Ben and Aunt Jessica.
Tank top in December?  Why not?

 Ben's Noah's Ark soft toy.
Gigi helps Lakin put on her new Dora watch.  Now maybe I can tell her wake up time is not until 7:30am and she'll stay put in her room until then...
Gigi and Lakin read a coffee table art book probably ten times while we were home.  They sat and looked at all the fine art and Gigi would tell her about the art or artists.  Lakin's favorite was the Thinker.  Clearly.
I had coffee out almost every morning.  It was a glorious and self indulgent treat.  New Year's Eve I met The Council - my life friends - for some coffee, quality time, and catch up.  Bonnie now lives in KC, Mary Kate in Chicago and Carly in St. Louis.  Not pictured was Polly who was snow bound in Columbia.  We poured one out for our missing sista.
All my buddies are now on Instagram.  I'm an IG evangelist.
New Years Eve was cray cray.  We made homemade pizza, guacamole, buffalo chicken dip and played group games.  WILD.
 Carly and sleepy Reese.
 Bonnie and Everett
Yeah, I'm a mom of two.  What's it to you?

Probably the best selfie I have ever taken.  Ever.
Classic Matt Roach pose.  I don't know.
Husbie getting worked up during Fishbowl.  Do me proud.
Chris and I's gift to one another was an overnight date on the Plaza.  It was awesome.  Dennis and Geri watch the babes and we shopped, ate, and slept past 8am.  LUXURY.

The swanky Hotel Raphael.  Very awesome.

Had dinner at Gram & Dun.  Great cocktails,  yummy food, the BEST company.
Happy Hour Margs and Cosmo at Kona Grill.  Oh my word.  I don't know why we don't do happy hour more often.  Oh yeah, residency and kids.

Sushi, you make me cry with joy.
Just making ourselves comfortable at Restoration Hardware.
Plaza lights from our hotel room.

It was so good to be home for a week.  Loved being with family and friends.  It fed my soul.

Thanks for hanging with this picture heavy post.  It is mid January and I'm still talking about Christmas, but you know...
