Destin 2015

Amazingly enough, Chris and I have never done a family vacation with just our immediate family.  Our trips usually include another family or Chris' parents.  After such a full and eventful Spring, we were looking for a way to relax and celebrate the year's accomplishments.  Chris' family traveled to Destin as an annual trip when the boys were in middle and high school and the memories and stories (oh, the stories) were enough to help us take the plunge and book a trip to Destin for our own family.
We stayed on the San Destin resort and the beach was perfectly manicured and combed and left all of our feet as soft as a baby's bottom.  The Florida water was perfectly blue and we had clear skies and sun the entire trip.

While bringing your three dependent children to the beach is a bit of work, it was totally worth the trouble, sweat and extra energy to hear the sound of the surf and watch your children marvel in the beauty and wonder that is the ocean.  We spent our mornings at the beach, a little time resting and napping in our condo in the afternoon followed by some pool swimming and then out to eat each night.

To save money (and calories) we cooked breakfast in room and packed PB & J everyday for the beach (Bennett's dream come true).  In the morning, Chris or I would take our chairs and umbrella out to the beach and stake claim on a spot.  By the time we would get the troops sunscreened up and out there (8:00 AM most days) the beach was already filling up.  Destin in July is a busy time, but the crowds weren't too bothersome.  The traffic at dinner time... well, that is a different story.

 Egg sammies every morning.

This kid and her water fascination.  She was in heaven all week.

Bennett was a little irritated with the mess of the sand but once he got over the fact that it was everywhere he was able to enjoy moving it (with the help of his dump truck) all over our beach area.

Julia in the ocean!  She loved the water and underneath the water was kicking up a storm.

Nap time Cheese Its and lounging for the boss.

"C-rull," or cereal, is Bennett's first love.

Her first glimpse of the beach!
Za on the beach.  Delicious, minus the sand.

Our room view.  We were a three minute walk to the water.  Perfect for a quick escape with the little ones.
Checked out a little Destin restaurant, Chipotle.  Ever heard of it?

 Beachin' will wear one out.

Here Baby, sleep on the towel over here.

That time Sonic blew Lakin's mind.
A naked Julia after one of her famous blow outs.
A hereditary rite of passage?  Lakin stuck in a bike rack.  Flash backs to her dad and uncle getting limbs stuck in railings as well.
We went to the library and checked out books to read in the car, those books snuck their way onto the beach one day.  I can't blame her, oceanside is my favorite way to read too.

We're counting this trip as a success!  We can't wait to begin making travel a tradition for our little family just like it was for Chris' growing up.
